PRAY WITHOUT CEASING

Luke 18:1-8 NKJV

1 Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,
2 saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man.
3 Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’
4 And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man,
5 yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”
6 Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said.
7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them?
8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”

Jesus told His disciples this parable to encourage them to pray always till they get answers to their prayer. God is not wicked like the Judge illustrated in the parable. God is loving, God is caring and God knows what we need before we even ask. But sometimes what we ask for what may not be what God want for us, the delay may also be due to lack of faith and sometimes, the delay may be because we make our prayers a one way traffic.

Prayer is one of the ways we communicate with God. Now imagine two people trying to communicate with each other and MAN 1 opened its mouth to explain what has happened to him, what is happening to him and what he expect from MAN 2 to make his life better. And immediately he finished expressing Himself he turned his back and he left without allowing MAN 2 to say a word. This is what most of our prayers to God looks like. "Father in the name of Jesus.............in Jesus name we pray, Amen. And we stand up and leave immediately"

Therefore, because we do not allow God to speak back to us immediately we finish asking Him, we often experience delay. If not He would have told us what His plan is for us and when we should expect it to be executed.

We need to always pray and we ought to pray without ceasing so that the Lord will avenge you from the oppression of your adversaries but the most important reason for you to pray without ceasing is concerning the gift of the Holy Spirit, our Christian life, and our salvation lest we fall into temptation.
